Snow!
I have a love/hate relationship with snow. I enjoy watching it go from flurries, to heavier flakes, to white-out blizzard conditions. I mean, I like to watch it from the living room window. I love to see the mountains covered with snow.
On the other hand, I hate snow. I don't like watching the roads become dreadfully dangerous to drive on. I hate the cold and I despise shoveling!
Overall, my love for snow wins out. It seems so pure, clean, beautiful! And even though it's so stinkin' cold, it still makes me feel warm all over to know that my sins, though "red as scarlet", have become "white as snow!"
Here's the dilemma. Shortly after a snowfall, the beautiful, clean, and pure snow becomes dirty, ugly, blackened by pollution, dirt, and salt trucks. In the same way, it doesn't seem to take very long for the beautiful white snow of forgiveness to be dirtied and sullied by my own failings, sin, and rebellion.
I don't know the answer to this dilemma -- at least not completely. I just lean pretty heavily upon "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning!" I depend on His fresh covering of snow of my scarlet sins EVERY DAY. That is amazing grace to the max. It is what has made me the great snowman I am.
